The series runs on weekends throughout summer. Starting in October with a classic Grading Race from Oceana, V&A Waterfront. The tour of Cape Town’s beaches begins, showcasing the versatile paddling options on offer around the peninsula and providing a platform for competitive and social paddlers alike to test their skills, and each other. Some of the locations you will find us throwing down include Clifton, Kommetjie, Hout Bay, Strand and Fish Hoek.
The goal of all RED Surf Ski events is to redraw the connection between long distance ocean paddling and lifesaving. We believe that through ocean education and safety as well as skills development we can equip the current and future generations with invaluable tools which will no doubt support career development and protect and educate our broader communities.
The return of the grading system means the return of competitive surf ski paddling at all levels. Paddlers will be given a grade corresponding to the index of their result against the average result. Once graded, paddlers will compete in their grade category for prizes and overall series position. To move up, simply score a grade above in one race. Paddlers who get two results below their current grade will be relegated to the grade below.
